Please take time to read the following conditions carefully as they form the basis of the contract between us.

Your booking is made with Single Step Tours Limited. The company is registered with Companies House, number 08243824. A contract will only exist when we have received the required deposits. The person dealing with Single Step Tours accepts the following conditions on behalf of all group members and will be our sole point of contact unless expressly agreed to the contrary. The contract is governed by English law and any dispute will be dealt with under this jurisdiction. You may however choose the law and jurisdiction of Scotland if you wish to do so.

To indicate your interest and enable us to secure certain core services, a non-refundable registration fee of £50 per person is payable. We will then forward you an invoice for initial deposits. The schedule of deposits will be specified in our offer letter. Deposits paid are non-refundable although you may be able to claim them back under the terms of any travel insurance policy in place.

An invoice for final payment will be sent to you 10 weeks prior to departure for payment 8 weeks before travel. Should we not receive payments on time, we reserve the right to treat the booking as cancelled by you.

Should a paying person cancel more than 8 weeks before departure, the deposits may be transferred to a replacement person. If this is not possible then deposits due at the date of cancellation will be retained by us. For cancellations made less than 8 weeks before departure, any payments made may be transferred but we reserve the right to charge an amendment fee of £25. If a transfer of payment takes place at any stage, any additional charges made by suppliers will be passed on in full.  Please note that in the case of airlines, such additional charges can be very significant. Cancellation will be subject to the following charges:

More than 56 days before departure:   Deposits only

56-29 days before departure: 60%

28-15 days before departure: 75%

14 days or less before departure: 100%

The date of cancellation is calculated on the day of receipt of written or emailed advice. If any cancellation brings the number of paying persons below the minimum number required for a particular price, then the price will be adjusted accordingly. Please note that cancellation charges may be covered under the terms of any travel insurance purchased.

If you wish to make any changes to your confirmed booking, you must notify us in writing as soon as possible. We will assist wherever possible and practical and reserve the right to charge an amendment fee of £25 per amendment. Any costs imposed by our suppliers will also be charged.

Additions to your group are usually possible at any time up to 8 weeks prior to travel but please check with us first. For any additions made within 8 weeks of departure we may charge an amendment fee of £25 per amendment.

Occasionally we have to make changes to the arrangements advised to you. Most changes will be minor and all will be advised at the earliest possible date.

If we have to make a significant change to your tour within 8 weeks of departure, compensation will be paid to each full fare paying person as below:

56-29 days: £5 per paying person

28-15 days: £10 per paying person

14 days or less: £15 per paying person

The compensation that we offer does not exclude you from claiming more if you are entitled to do so.

We cannot accept liability or pay any compensation where the performance or prompt performance of our contractual obligations is prevented or affected by or you otherwise suffer any damage, loss or expense of any nature whatsoever as a result of ‘force majeure’. In these Booking Conditions ‘force majeure’ means any event which we or the supplier of the service(s) in question could not foresee or avoid even with all due care. Such events may include war, or threat of war, riot, civil strife, actual or threatened terrorist activity, industrial dispute or nuclear disaster, adverse weather conditions, fire and all events of a similar nature outside our control.

We will only accept responsibility for any personal illness, injury or death which result from the negligent acts or omissions of any servant or agent, or any supplier working on our behalf in the provision of services or facilities to you and whilst acting within the scope of their employment. We will also accept responsibility for those elements of the tour arrangements which are under our direct control and for the acts and/or omissions of our employees, agents, subcontractors and suppliers. We can only be liable for the provision of special requests where we have confirmed their availability in writing beforehand. Please note that we do not accept liability for any air or sea carriers whose individual conditions of carriage apply and are often subject to international agreements. We cannot be held responsible for the loss of enjoyment or additional expenses due to delays or changes in any travel arrangements or other services which are caused by circumstances amounting to ‘force majeure’.

If you have a problem during your tour please inform your tour guide immediately. It is our experience that most problems can be resolved swiftly once we become aware of them. In the unlikely event that matters remain unresolved, please write to us immediately on your return and we will do our utmost to find a satisfactory solution. Written notice of any claim or dispute must be received by us within 28 days of the date on which the tour ended.

In signing the booking form the group leader also accepts responsibility for the good conduct of all participants during the tour and warrants that at least one responsible adult will be on active duty at all times. This is to ensure that all group members act in a responsible fashion and do not behave in a way likely to cause damage to property, harm to themselves or other people and conform at all times with local laws and customs. As many of our tours visit battlefield areas which are potentially hazardous, it is important to follow all advice provided

Your specific passport and visa requirements and any other immigration requirements are your responsibility and you should confirm them with the relevant embassies and consulates. It is vital you check the requirements for any non  British citizens in your group as well as those of British citizens. Also consider countries you will be travelling through en route to/from your destination(s). We do not accept any responsibility if any member of your group is unable to travel due to non-compliance with any passport, visa or immigration requirements.

Group leaders may wish to refer to the Department of Health leaflet T7.2 Health Advice for Travellers. This offers health information for all destinations. Copies are available from Post Offices nationwide.  We recommend that all group members travelling within the EU travel with a valid EHIC card. You can apply for this via www.ehic.orh.uk or as detailed on the T7.2 leaflet. It is the group leader’s responsibility to ensure that all group members comply with any health requirements for members of their group. At present there are no mandatory health formalities for British citizens travelling to the destinations we currently feature in our publicity material but please bear in mind that requirements may change and will vary for other nationalities.

If any member of your group has a medical problem or disability which may affect your arrangements the group leader must give us full details before you confirm your booking so that we can advise as to the suitability of the chosen arrangements. If we reasonably feel unable to properly meet the needs of any person concerned we reserve the right to decline the reservation or cancel their booking should we subsequently become aware of these details.

Information gathered from you will be used to plan your tour and promote the welfare and safety of your group. It will not be passed to any third party for marketing purposes.

It is assumed that groups and individuals have adequate travel insurance.

  • "Peter's depth of knowledge and infectious enthusiasm make a battlefield come alive. It's impossible not to be drawn in by his unique blend of poetry, personal stories and historical insight which he skilfully pitches at a level that is engaging for both pupils and adults alike."

    Jackie Barron

  • "The feedback we received from our classes after the trip was excellent. They found the trip both interesting and moving and they thought they'd learned a lot too!"

History Department, King Edward VI School, Southampton

  • "Peter connects the landscape of the battles with the stories and literature of those who fought. "

    Shona Burt

  • "Single Step Tours is the perfect name for Peter Jones’ company. It truly was just one simple single step - emailing Peter - and he took care of all the rest ! My knowledge of World War 2 was minimal so I feel that this trip to Normandy, thanks to Peter’s expert and fascinating information, has opened a whole new world up to me. My husband, on the other hand, has always been a history buff, but he too found that having Peter as a tour guide brought to life what never could be found in reading history books. Along with being extremely knowledgeable, Peter is a fun and thoroughly enjoyable person! We both recommend him with great enthusiasm and appreciation for an unforgettable tour. "

Doris and Ed Heiser, Milwaukee, USA (Normandy, March 2013)

  • ""Thanks again for your insightful tour - we all enjoyed it immensely." "

    Alex Nothling (Somme, 2013)
